Max Bid Calculator FAQ

What is a max bid calculator?

It works backward from how good a deal you want to the highest price you should pay — factoring in fees (if reselling) and any buyer's premium — instead of guessing at auction and hoping the math works out afterward.

What's a buyer's premium?

An extra percentage many auction houses add on top of the hammer price — separate from any selling fee. Set it to 0 if the platform you're bidding on doesn't charge one.

I'm not reselling — do I still need the selling fee field?

Set it to 0 if you're keeping the item. eBay runs about 13% for most categories, Facebook Marketplace is free for local pickup, and Reverb (musical instruments) is about 8% combined, if you do want to factor in eventual resale.

Does this save my numbers?

Not on this page — it's a quick, no-signup tool. WorthAPick's full app applies this same calculation automatically to every listing it analyzes, using real comparable sold prices instead of a number you estimate yourself.
